Daniela Moebius was the project manager and design lead from initial planning through construction at Lassel Architects PA of this project.

This private home, next to a picturesque lake in Maine, was designed to house the client’s family and many relatives. The open-concept plan, framed by a unique timber frame inspired by Greene & Greene’s designs, provides large open spaces for entertaining and generous views of the lake. Sleeping lofts can comfortably host a crowd overnight and each of the family members’ bedrooms was configured to provide a view of the lake as well as cross-ventilation. The bedroom wings pivot o a staircase which winds around a natural tree trunk up to a tower room with 360-degree views of the surrounding lake and forest.

All interiors are framed with natural wood and custom-built furniture. The interior was planned and designed to support the family’s personal lifestyle. The family enjoys the home throughout the entire year; therefore careful attention was paid to insulation, air tightness and efficient mechanical systems, including indoor heating. A careful site analysis was completed to address setbacks to the lake and a bird sanctuary. The house was integrated into the natural topography of the site to connect the interior and exterior spaces and encourage an organic circulation ow. Solar orientation along with summer and winter sun angles were studied to provide shade in the summer and to take advantage of passive solar gain in the winter.
